Belakangan, JPMorgan Chase (JPMC) perusahaan keuangan top asal Amerika Serikat mengaku tertipu oleh startup fintech bernama Frank yang melayani pinjaman pendidikan untuk pelajar Amerika Serikat yang didirikan oleh Charlie Javice.

Sebelum ke kasusnya, kita cari tahu dulu siapa JPMorgan?
JPMorgan Chase menjadi bank terbesar di Amerika Serikat dan masuk 10 terbesar di dunia dengan total asset lebih dari US$ 3,74 triliun atau sekitar Rp58,62 kuadriliun! Bank hasil dari beberapa merger dan akuisisi ini juga salah satu pengelola investasi terbesar di dunia dengan kapitalisasi pasar mencapai $395,4 Billion per 20 Januari 2023 kemarin.
Sekelas JPMorgan tertipu?
Kronologi Kasus JPMorgan
Dari 4,25 juta jumlah pengguna Frank yang diklaim Javice, ternyata hanya sekitar 300 ribu di antaranya yang merupakan pengguna “asli” dan jutaan sisanya hanyalah data fiktif. Kebohongan baru terbongkar setelah pihak JPMC mengirimkan email pemasaran ke 400 ribu pelanggan Frank tetapi 70% emailnya ternyata dikembalikan.
Dugaan Penipuan
Javice di duga membayar seorang data scientist untuk membuat data pengguna palsu senilai $18 ribu atau sekitar Rp272 juta.
Kejadian ini tentu menjadi pelajaran bagi perusahaan sekelas JPMC yang di ketahui berhasil mengakuisisi Frank tahun 2021 lalu dengan mahar senilai US$ 175 juta atau mencapai sekitar Rp2,6 triliun (kurs Rp15.250).
Sosok Charlie Javice
Yang cukup mengagetkan juga ternyata Javice pernah masuk daftar Forbes 30 under 30 kategori Finance tahun 2019 lalu berkat keberhasilan startup yang di rintis di usia mudanya. Bahkan selain Frank, Javice juga sempat mendirikan startup lain bernama PoverUp hingga 2015 lalu.
Kekayaan Javice
Kekayaan Javice juga tidak bisa di bilang sedikit. Setidaknya sekitar Rp75 miliar bisa ia dapatkan dari kariernya selain menjadi Founder & CEO Frank. Ia juga pernah menjadi Anggota Dewan Pengawas University of Pennsylvania Hillel lebih dari 3 tahun hingga Penasihat Khusus The Wharton School lebih dari 12 tahun.
Petinggi Startup Forbes 30 Under 30 yang tersandung Kasus Penipuan
Kini, Javice menambah panjang daftar “petinggi” startup yang masuk jajaran Forbes 30 under 30 yang terlibat kasus penipuan. Sebelumnya, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) founder FTX, Caroline Ellison pimpinan Alameda Research, dan Elizabeth Holmes founder Theranos, juga sempat terseret kasus.
