Notasi Khusus ini merupakan pemberitahuan berupa simbol khusus yang di berikan oleh BEI kepada investor, untuk mengetahui kondisi kurang baik dari suatu emiten.
BEI memberlakukan Notasi Khusus dalam bentuk huruf, di mana dari setiap huruf memiliki pengertian yang berbeda dan di berikan secara beragam kepada masing-masing emiten.

Notasi Khusus ini menjadi sebuah peringatan yang di berikan oleh BEI, kepada para investor. Karena secara tidak langsung Notasi Khusus ini berfungsi sebagai indikator penunjuk, jika suatu emiten sedang bermasalah.

- Untuk memberikan perlindungan bagi investor agar terhindar dari emiten-emiten yang bermasalah.
- Agar setiap emiten lebih taat aturan, guna menghindari penyematan notasi khusus yang lebih banyak.
Perlu di ketahui, Notasi Khusus bukan lambang permanen yang di sematkan kepada sebuah emiten. Notasi itu dapat di hapus oleh bursa apabila kondisi yang di hadapi emiten tersebut sudah terselesaikan.
Namun Notasi Khusus ini masih bisa untuk dihapus ataupun diubah oleh BEI, jika masalah yang dihadapi emiten bersangkutan sudah terselesaikan, atau bahkan emiten telah berhasil memperbaiki kinerjanya.
